“Completing the Circle” A SELECTION PROCESS
When ‘Completing the Circle’ and using the 5 R’s the player must select many different steps, one stance and one contact move depending on the opponents approaching ball and what contact and footwork zone that the ball has been hit into! That is….a selection process takes place – The following series of blogs will list the 5 different R’s and the various steps, stances and moves that are most common in each section.
R No 1 = ‘Getting READY’!
Getting Ready means being up on you toes and then creating a strong foundation with your legs when the opponent strikes the ball i.e. splitting the step. There are 2 common ways to get on your toes and 3 different types of splitting steps
On the Toes – GET READY by taking ready steps! (Player is on the baseline) i.e. on the spot, flick feet sideways. Ready steps keep you on your toes when you have recovered and are you are waiting for your opponents next shot and in control of the rally or even when doing fed ball drills to get the feet moving and switch on mentally!
Or, bounce steps (player or opponent at net) i.e. with a wide base bounce on the toes. Bounce steps keep you on your toes when you have recovered and are waiting for your opponents next shot but are anticipating a more aggressive shot.
