TCPR Player Development
The Programs
The Player Development Experts
TCPR and our partners offer several player development options in South Florida. The program options are available at South County Park in Boca Raton, Florida. These programs are designed for serious athletes seeking a more personalized and sophisticated approach to building a developmental foundation. A poor technical foundation is almost always a glass ceiling to long term success.
Our programs build players based on extensive individual emphasis through private and targeted group training. Technical development, movement efficacy and fitness, along with tactics and competition, are developed utilizing industry leading multi-disciplinary expertise and by leveraging the most progressive sport science application at any level of the sport.
The programs may be utilized as a full time training system, used as a supplementary curriculum, or accessed as a short term solution for visiting athletes to dramatically improve in specific areas of development. The details of the programs are highlighted below – we welcome comparison of our expertise and programs to any program in the world.
Program Options
Personal Training Program
Private training is the cornerstone of the TCPR system. The reality is that substantive development in the technical areas of tennis is only possible through intensive individual instruction. Our instruction is laser-focussed on the core skills that define stroke and lower body mechanics. Failure to credibly address these core skills at an early developmental stage will hinder progress and limit long term success.
Credibility is the key issue when selecting a program to develop a player. Many programs claim it but TCPR guarantees it. Private instruction in the core skill sets at TCPR is provided by a coach, truly unique in tennis, possessing exceptional expertise in tennis and sport science. Brian Gordon has advanced degrees in Biomechanics (Ph.D) and Exercise Science (Master of Basic Science) combined with decades of experience as a junior developmental coach.
While critical and indispensable, private work in building core skill sets is only part of the equation. These skill sets must be integrated into live and match situations. Our Personal Training curriculum should be coupled with a group training format to solidify this integration. Players may utilize our Personal Training Program as a supplement to their normal training programs, or participate in our affiliate group training program at the Rick Macci Tennis Academy.
Private Training Format
Dr. Gordon has developed a training format rooted in Sport Science and perfected through decades of experience in player development. Sessions are skills based meaning focus is on producing shots at the highest level. The skills required include neural cognition, movement to and from the ball, balance and stability, and stroke mechanics.
Neural Cognition – Perceiving and integrating information (situations in play) to execute a motor pattern is the highest level skill in tennis. While this ability is largely genetic, each individual can improve. Training includes challenging perception and neural integration with the use of computerized light systems.
Movement Mechanics – While simple in theory, court movement (guided by cognition) is a problem for many players. Technique in preparation to move, acceleration to and from the ball, and direction of movement are a major focus often utilizing computerized timing systems and accelerometers.
Stroke Mechanics – Stroke technique is assessed and individually designed based on the empirically defined attributes of the B.E.S.T. System. The training court is equipped at least 8 high speed cameras. Training utilizes this resource along with accelerometers to develop optimized personal solutions with a focus on producing the full array of shot outputs.
Visiting Player Program
TCPR welcomes visiting players residing outside of South Florida. Short term and part time players visit from around the globe to dramatically improve in a particular technical area but may also wish to generally improve in all aspects of development.
To address these variable objectives we will develop custom programs for each individual based on developmental stage. Players will work directly with Dr. Brian Gordon on all applicable aspects of stroke and movement mechanics in drilling and live contexts.
Serve Mechanics Specialization
Serve Holding You Back?
An inadequate serve is one of the most common limitations to success across the spectrum of competitive tennis. Fortunately it doesn’t have to be that way. Dr. Brian Gordon has done the research, tested the theories, and designed sophisticated serve training protocols. The result is our Serve Rx Program – specialized serve training based on advanced Biomechanics.
